Since I’m keeping this blog anonymous, and want to protect the identities of my friends & family, I thought I’d give you a quick reference guide, in case you get confused.
BFF – one of my best friends. I met this girl at a temp job I had, but it feels like I’ve known her forever. She’s Italian, too, so she grew up in a very similar way to me, which makes it fun. The #1 person I talk to for advice about boys.
Neece – I’ve known Neece since high school. We’ve lived together and worked together. She is one of the kindest, sweetest people I’ve ever met. Another person I consider one of my best friends. She is always there for me to talk to about anything — embarrassing or silly or whatever. (Note: Neece’s old name abbreviation was DRMK, because she used to sell Mary Kay (don’t ask me… it was a slow day, creatively, ok?).
CTLB – another great friend who I’m in grad school with. CTLB is getting married August 8, 2008 and her wedding is one of my major goal dates. I’m hoping I can lose the majority of my weight by this date. I’m so excited because the wedding is going to be back East, and I’ve never been there, so it gives me a great chance to see some of the sites I’ve always wanted to visit.
LC – my sis. She’s amazing. A full-time social worker and a full-time mom. She’s two years younger than me, but WAY more responsible. I guess that comes with the whole married-with-kids thing. She is patient and sweet, unless you get her riled up, which is only easy to do if you’re her older sister and you know which buttons to push.
Favorite Cousin – As her name implies, she is my favorite cousin, and believe me, with the amount of cousins I have, that’s saying a lot. Favorite Cousin is actually my 2nd cousin, but because she and I are only 6 years apart in age, we’ve always been close. Favorite Cousin lives in San Francisco, and growing up, I always admired her “cosmopolitan ways.” I still do, but now I envy her job even more! She’s a personal assistant to a few very wealthy people in SF. (She does a variety of things for her clients, depending on their needs. Everything from paying their bills and helping them with shopping to planning lavish parties in Italy and then getting to go along. Now, just like with any job, I’m sure hers has some downsides, but I think I’d like to try it for a while and see what they might be). Favorite Cousin has a great attitude about life, and is always in the know about the hippest things going on in SF and the whole Bay Area.
YET – A friend with whom I was inseparable when we worked together several years ago. She moved to Miami in October 2006. She is one of the kindest, most generous people I know. She does have a tendency to go into “deep hibernation” where she doesn’t call, email, or communicate for several months at a time. It’s sometimes difficult feeling close to her during these periods, but it’s just how she is. Part of the package. She and I aren’t friends anymore, but I still think of our old friendship fondly.
Mr. Done – The guy I thought could be The One. He and I started dating in December 2006 and things were going better than I could ever imagine…until he broke things off on Superbowl Sunday, February 2007. Lots of blog entries about him.
Ms. LM – a teacher-friend for the year she worked at my school. Unfortunately, once Ms. LM moved back to Colorado, I haven’t heard from her at all. Guess this is one of those cases where you make friends for a short time and then each one moves on in different directions.
BeachGirl – BeachGirl is an English teacher at my school whom I’ve gotten to know better.
CBCB – a health teacher at my school with whom I can talk about “the good old days” and know we’re referring to the 80’s!
AM – A lifelong friend of Neece’s who has become my good friend as well. I don’t know how she does it — she’s my age and she’s been married for 10 years, raises two boys, works part time, and yet seems to always have it together. AM is someone I’m so happy to know.
CJ – CJ is AM’s sister, and one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met. She’s beautiful inside and out. While she and I don’t see each other very often, she is someone I can always count on to have a great conversation with.
Margie -Margie is a wonderful person. She’s married to a longtime friend of AM’s, and also worked with my sister way back when. Margie is so thoughtful, kind, and considerate. She and I don’t get to see each other often because she’s busy raising two little ones, but I always enjoy the time we spend together.
FavNeighbor – FavNeighbor is one of the best people I know. She and her groom (they got married in June of 2008) moved in a couple of months ago to the duplex next door. CJ works with FavNeighbor, and recommended the place to her because she knew we’d get along so well. I feel like I’ve known FavNeighbor forever, even though it’s been such a short time. She and her husband are such awesome people. We have so much in common, and it makes me feel so good knowing that I have them right next door.
Cynn – Cynn was my boss for a summer, but will be my friend for life. She and I share in a weigh loss journey, and she’s come up with a great motto: “little by slow” after the Hana turtles in Hawaii. Cynn is an amazing songstress, participating in two different SF bands. She’s a woman who is a goddess; a soul sister who wants to care for everyone she meets. Her heart is as big as her smile, and I love her.
Ish – Ish and I are cousins, well, sort of. Her mom is cousins with my mom’s aunt by marriage. (Did you follow that?) In the Italian culture, cousins of cousins are still considered family, so we call each other cousins when we’re introducing ourselves to other people. Growing up, Ish and I saw each other from time to time at large family gatherings, and we always had a lot in common because we were the same age. Recently, we started seeing more of each other, and I’ve gotten to know Ish so much better. I have to say, she’s quickly becoming one of my new favorite friends.
I’m sure there will be more people that I refer to, but for now, this is the list.
